I have Dark Brunette hair, and ideally my hair should get a reddish/plum highlight. But I was disappointed that it ended up as a orange/tan shade ... way too much of a contrast, and I hated the look (so I'm going to have to re-color my hair). Is it possible to get burgundy/plum highlights for dark brunettes?

Didn’t mix well. Was dry and flaky. Had to wash after 10 mins because it was flaking onto my face.

I have now tried twice to have a satisfying result but it has been disappointing both times. The second application was much easier and less intimidating. The problem for me is the color. I wanted more of an auburn/ caramel color of highlights. This is what the sun would do naturally in my youth. Each time the resulting effect was that my hair looked to have gray highlights. Not the effect I was hoping for. I color my hair to cover the gray not add more to it. I wanted a warmer auburn color not gray. Disappointed.

I of course went with the formulation from my colorists and my highlights came out orange. I had a hair stylist friend do my Lightning and followed the instructions to the letter. I am so dissatisfied. I have been using esalon for years and have loved it. However 2 boxes ago it didn’t even cover my gray. This time I complained they wouldn’t refund me but changed my color in the next box and my hair came out almost black. I always request a burgundy. So displeased

I was expecting a better results but at the end I regret to purchase the light set, I got the recommended color for my base and at the end I got a Orange/brass color, it makes my hair look like tinted with a cheap hair dye. I totally regret to purchased it. Never again.

Turned my hair orange super spotty and inconsistent, product seems very dry and is a pain to apply. I need go to a salon to have it fixed now, I should have just stopped after applying the over all colour. Wouldn’t purchase again.

This literally turned my hair bright orange. If you're on the fence, don't do it. Just walk away. Say no to the bleach.

I thought this would give me some nice mahogany/coppery highlights, which it didn't really. Just looked like a regular highlight with no color. Was hoping my medium brown which normally does well with highlights would pick up some of the colored highlights to my disappointment it didn't.

The light set was easy to use and the instructional video on this topic was great. Unfortunately my highlights turned out pumpkin orange and looked terrible. I used the toning mask a second time the next day (esalon provides plenty of the toning mask.) to try to neutralize the color to no avail. I have been so happy with my custom color sets the entire time I've been an esalon customer that I was shocked how bad this product turned out on my hair. I will not use it again. I will continue ordering custom color from this company.

I followed all directions correctly. The color was so bad I had to get it corrected professionally. The balayage color looked orange! Big yikes. Immediately canceled plan.

I have used esalon's color system several times and been happy with the results. I used this light set today and followed the directions carefully. The formula was very chalky, drying on my hair almost instantly, making it almost impossible to apply evenly on each section of hair. After following the directions, I blow dried my hair and was frustrated to see patchy lighted sections all over my head. I used the included toning mask as well and my hair still turned out brassy. I would not recommend this product unless you are an expert or know someone with experience who can help you apply it evenly before it drys.

I’ve been happily dying my hair for the last 6 months. The colorist said that my hair would not lighten very much and I chose the darkest highlights. It was a disaster. The end product was completely bleached out spotty and chunky. When I called frantic for help they said they would send a product to help me but wouldn’t/couldn’t explain why it was the best product to help. Also, I got it a week later.

I've been using the Light Sets for awhile now and was always very happy with the results. However, even though I decided to try a darker hair color this time (which turned out beautifully), I was sent the same color Light Set that I used with my lighter color. I never questioned the selection nor did I read other reviews, but after having using the set yesterday, I wish I had. My beautiful underlying dark color now looks like it has orange stripes going through it. This Light Set color worked nicely with my lighter colored hair, but it looks horrendous with my new darker color. I'm afraid that I will have to live with the orange stripes until they fade because my hair is thin and fine, and I'm afraid of damaging it. I guess I'm just thankful that we're in our rainy winter season here in the PNW so I can keep my hood up when I go outside. Never again, unless they come up with a new color Light Set for this type of darker hair color.

The colour was nice, however my application of product, not so great! I have a bit to learn before I give highlights another go. Clumps of colour, and I probably should have done finer pieces of hair. Learning as I go, and would probably try again.

I love that this product is super easy to use but not at all the result I was looking for. I requested for extra light brown highlights bc my hair is dark brown. I got an email after the order was made that my choice in color is not recommended. They recommended a dark brown high light kit which I accepted. I figure they knew more than me when it comes to coloring. After doing the process, my hair color looks exactly like my natural hair color. I spent $45 for my hair to look exactly the same. I suppose it’s my fault for not pushing for a blond to light brown highlight kit. I guess I will just figure out highlighting at the local beauty store.

I have used lightner before and they had a nice wet texture. Easy to spread on hair but is stuff dries out on the hair in a few minutes and is chunky. Very hard to work with. I have long hair and there was barely enough to finish. Nice suble color though.

Before applying this I called eSalon to ask how many shades my hair would lighten from the chemical process. I was concerned about going too light. I told the colorist I was thinking of washing it out in half the recommended time and she informed me it would lighten a Max of three shades. I ended up keeping an eye on it and at 15 minutes I turned almost blond. I have dark brown hair. I had a heart attack. The toner only made the hair turn orange/copper. I look like a red headed Cruella Deville. Now I have to go to a real salon and get my hair fixed by a professional. Not cool eSalon. I want my money back.

Absolutely the worst thing I’ve ever done to my hair. The way they tell you to apply and time it leaves the bottom and middle layer processing longer so those areas are yellow — and the top is extremely brassy orangey awfulness. I thought since they formulated the base this would be something to complement it. I followed the instructions to the letter. Now I’ll be going to Sally to get a Demi color to try and mask it until my regular hair dresser has an appointment 5 weeks from now. This is going to end up being a very expensive fix. I don’t see a place for me to upload a photo …. Do not recommend if you have dark hair. My daughter has dark blonde / light brown hair and I added a few pieces around her face with the leftover — hers is cute but she’s got virgin light hair to start…. Not for dark hair …. Maybe not even for dark color treated hair ….

There is definitely a knack to getting the technique right with this. I watched the ‘how to’ video first & followed the instructions. The back looks OK but the side bits are far too light and it has ruined the texture of my hair, making it puffy & parched. I think the processing time was too long for my hair.

I’ve been using the custom colour for the whole of lockdown and love it so decided to give the highlights a go, following the video tutorial stage by stage. Absolutely gutted. Left with bright orange stripes in my long, very dark brown hair. I look horrific. Seriously contemplating shaving my head.

It did lighten but to a super brassy orange color. It looked so terrible. Not at all what I was hoping. I’ve basically have been wearing a hat ever since I did it till I figure out what to do. I was sent a toner and it worked somewhat. But I’m skeptical about doing bayalage like this again.

I have medium to dark brown hair and I bought the highlights that was suggested for my hair color. It turned out AWEFUL. It was way to blonde. It looked so bad. Lucky I had a soft medium brown store bought hair color and I immediately colored all the highlights. When I was done it looked much better but you could still see some blonde in my hair. With the highlights I watched the videos a few times and read the instructions because I was really scared to do this. Now I know I’ll never ever buy this again. A waste of my money and a $3.00 box color fixed it.

I reached out to inquire about this product and decided to purchase based on the info provided, product description, and how-to videos. It turned out just plain awful. The "highlights" are orange streaks that look terrible. I feel like I look like Tigger. I will definitly not purchase again and wish I would not have wasted the money the first time. I am pretty sure I am going to need to go to a salon and cough up the money to have color repair done.

All I accomplished was putting swaths of bleach over my base color. Should have left it alone. Even with foils or a cap, the bleach resulted in that reddish brown bleached look, not blonde and certainly not light. The powder that was supposed to be incorporated into the developer occupied by volume twice the space. Never got it "creamy" Best I could do was a texture that resembles pie crust before you add the tablespoon of water.

The amount of lightener provided isn't enough for my thick mid-length hair. I have to buy two, which at double the price isn't much cheaper than what I'd pay at a salon for a professional job without any effort.
Please think about increasing the amount of product so I can justify the expense of continuing to use it.

Turned my hair NEON ORANGE! Can't get a refund!

Biggest mistake of my life! I foolishly tried Light Set twice. First time, it turned my medium brown hair BRIGHT NEON ORANGE. I contacted eSalon and they recommended the purple Tint Rinse in conjunction with the Light Set next time for better results.
So fast forward 3 months. After having to dye my hair back to brown at my own expense, I reordered the Light Set and Tint Rinse (I'm an idiot for trying this again, I know). I re-watched all the YouTube videos and instructions, and very carefully applied the Light Set and waited the 30 minutes. BRIGHT ORANGE again!! I followed with the recommended Tint Rinse and it did absolutely nothing except form a huge lather that really dried my hair out and made it feel like straw.
I contacted eSalon about their 100% guarantee but they said NO! They refunded me the first time, and even though an eSalon rep suggested I try it again with the Tint Rinse, they would not honor their guarantee anymore.
The eSalon rep did not inform me before I repurchased that they only honor their satisfaction guarantee ONE time. I am so saddened by the lack of customer service! I feel like eSalon tricked me into repurchasing not only another Light Set, but also the Tint Rinse, and now they won't honor their satisfaction guarantee.
So basically I paid eSalon $60 to turn my hair NEON ORANGE and also damage it. And now I need to spend even more money to get it fixed.
Moral of the story: eSalon's satisfaction guarantee doesn't always apply, so buyer beware. Light Set product turned my hair NEON ORANGE even with the Tint Rinse. I do not recommend it! I guess if something seems to good to be true, it probably is. So upset.

Des difficultés à appliquer seule , le cheveu a coloré très vite. En cas d''erreur lors de l' application j'aurais eu du mal à rattraper. Le ton de couleur était trop claire pour moi j'aurai du prendre une teinte plus foncé. Pouvez vous me conseiller pour la prochaine fois.

The products are fabulous, well packaged and very easy to use. All laid out for you with no chance of errors given the instructions. My issue is the colour did not take well as my grey has just gone too long without colour on the roots. I don’t blame the product think it’s just waiting too long i between colouring. Will try it again at some point.

This didn't seem to work for me. I have very thick hair so we used the whole mixture, the highlight are very faint and really only shows up when I am in the sun outside. I may try a more blond highlight next time, rather then cinnamon .

Very thick so difficult to apply. I put it on as the instructions and video instructed me to but doing it myself was hard and after 5 mins it looked like it was going green so I panicked and took it off. It did lighten it ever so slightly in those 5 mins thou so it would it been fine if I had left it on longer

The mix dries very fast and not nearly enough to cover anything. The highlights came out ok then I washed and applied the purple product. The highlights turned BRIGHT ORANGE! It was awful. I had to cover everything with a dark color and lost all the other beautiful highlights I had.

This is the second product I purchased...first was the all over color which did not cover my grey..second is the highlights..followed all directions, saturated hair, left it on for a little over processing time and did nothing. Not happy at all

It was much more difficult than I’d expected to apply Light Set myself, but I’m sure it will get easier with practice. I have a lot of hair, so when I finally did the highlights on my crown I ran out of product. Unfortunately I’ll have to order another kit to finish my hair, which is expensive considering I’ll only be using about one-fourth of it.

I ordered the set to lighten pre-dyed hair, also eSalon. The hair turned bright orange! Luckily I had left over color to hide it but I feel like I damaged my hair for no reason. The whole benefit of eSalon is the customer service/colorist help so this doesn't happen. If it couldn't work with pre-dyed hair why not let me know?

I followed the directions, but the solution came out very dry and left my highlights splotchy. It looks like I tried to make my hair cheetah print. Definitely won’t be using again since I had to pay to have my hair fixed.

It turned out ok, but was a more cumbersome process than I'd want to deal with on a regular basis, you do your regular color first and then do this within in a week and there are multiple steps where you have to leave stuff on your hair for extended periods of time. It was subtle so that is a positive, I would not do again.

the process is not as easy as they say. I thought the results would be very subtle, and youd have to build up to reach a lighter color, but right in the first application my hightlights are very marked and now a horrible orange, brassy color. My hair was healthy and with no previous hair dye, and I followed the instructions accordingly

I was so excited about this highlight set, but unfortunately it didn’t lift well on my hair. I have a section that’s really yellow/orange. I’m hoping a colorist can help cover up the yellow/orange. I’m very Ashe blonde and this looks not so good against my cool hair tone.

I used this kit as instructed and it left my “highlights” orange. The toner did nothing to neutralize the orange. It’s costing more to color correct at the salon than had I gone in to get my regular service. So very disappointing!

My husband followed the instructions completely and my light brown hair is now brassy and orange. Should have read the reviews before purchasing. Toner does nothing to help. This really isn't for darker hair colors.

The highlight that was selected for me turned my roots and streaks of my hair orange, while the toner turned some of the streaks purple. HIGHLY do not recommend. I originally asked for an all over color and was convinced to buy a more expensive highlight kit. You are literally better off buying any drug store hair dye. In fact, a year ago I highlighted my own, light brown, unbleached hair with an $11 box of drugstore dye and you would have thought it was professional. What am I supposed to do with orange AND purple hair!?!?!?!?

Not what I expected

I thought this light set would be easy to apply with foil paper as done in the salon, but thats not how these highlights are done. I am not comfortable just drawing it on my hair without the foil paper to separate it so it doesnt taint other hair, so I have not used it at all and I am unable to return.

I think the processing time was too long. It didn’t take me that long to get the mixture applied and it was an easy enough process but I think my processing time was just too long. I think if it was maybe 10-15 minutes less then they would have been perfect.

Orange Highlights...

I ordered my first custom color set in dark ash brown & light set. The custom color was darker than expected but I figured it will lighten up a bit over time. I also applied the light set day after and followed instructions very carefully. After I washed and blowed it dry, I was surprised that the highlights were pretty orange...not what I expected when I ordered ash-brown as the base color, so I assumed the highlight set would be adjusted to compliment my base color. I really do not like any orange in my hair and always tell the colorist to not use any color that has orange in it. I'm afraid the orange will become even lighter over time so I'll have to invest in purple shampoo until I make a trip to a salon to get it done right. I was curious about eSalon and glad I tried it but I won't be doing highlights/balayage at home again!

I was very disappointed with the results. I was really looking forward to doing the balayage, but it did not work, and my hair is the same colour.

Lightening mixture dried out quickly. Didn't feel like enough for my thick, long hair - I was scraping every drop to finish my hair.
Followed the video instructing and some areas still ended up a bit brassy. There definitely was not enough of the toning mask to cover my hair to offset the brassiness.
Definitely recommend having someone to help for nice even application.

I have dark blonde hair and purchased the light blonde kit. No change. Very disappointed. Don’t waste your time or money.

I must have placed an order for this, but don't recall. I do recall ordering the tint, and when that order came it was with highlight kit, shampoo and conditioner. I kept it thinking... 'who knows, I may need to use this one day.' Well, I didn't, I haven't, and I won't. Seemed more complicated than I wanted get involved with. If I wanted extra highlights, I'd go to a salon. It was easy to use but lightened my overall color too much. I think it was user error not the product!

What a nightmare, followed instructions exactly but was way too light and yellow. Had to wear a cap till I could get in hairdressers to fix. Would not recommend

I was excited to try the light set. I wanted to order the lightest of the light set, however I was told that the medium to dark blonde would be best for my hair. I followed the directions for application, time needed to process and tone. Sadly, there were no highlights.

Still waiting for what I paid for. Started requesting replacement 4 days ago and still not shipped. Customer service hangs up on you and then when you call back it goes to voicemail. If you expect to get what you paid for...buy it somewhere else! And yes...I’ve beefed several of your employees to fix my concerns yet...no shipping, no product and still making claims that refute what your website advertised.

Never had worse hair than this in my life I will be forced into going brown for the first time in over 10 years. I did it exactly how the instructions told me and my hair is a mix of orange, yellow and gold it makes me sick. Will NEVER EVER be using again and will be requesting a full refund along with compensation for emotional distress.

The light color is good but I wasn’t familiar with highlighting my hair. The consistency is dry ( but the instructions state that anyways) so it didn’t feel like I was able to saturate the ends of the highlights. Middle section was kinda chunky. Maybe with time it’ll be better for me. My first try to highlight.
